Featured Artist - Elizabeth Armour
Elizabeth completed her Honours Degree in Jewellery and Metal this May at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee University, here in Scotland and is another award winning artist and contemporary jeweller having won the F&A Bradhsaw Award which is presented to a final year student in her Department. The significance of this and why she is featured here is that she uses Cloud9 and 3D printing to enhance the range of her designs which are inspired by organic natural objects and Elizabeth will be using her award to purchase her own Cloud 9 package.
Duncan of Jordanstone's Jewellery and Metal Department were one of the first in the UK to purchase Anarkik3D's haptic 3D modelling software for use by students (and Staff).
Elizabeth talks about how and why she uses Cloud9 here and in this video. The first image below shows her latest piece that was 3D printed at MAKLAB in Glasgow, The second image is her 'Springin’ Brooch' with centre part designed using Cloud9 and 3D printed using the UP3D.

Featured Artist - Farah Bandookwala
Farah is an award winning artist and contemporary jeweller. She began working with Cloud9 in combination with Rhino whilst studying at Edinburgh College of Art. The following four images are taken from her 2010 Masters Degree show. Each piece was 3D printed in nylon using selective laser sintering and then dyed. Much of her work created in Cloud9 also combines various other materials as well, such as steel and glass.
In 2011, Farah was one of four artists awarded the prestigious Jerwood Makers Open Award.
| "I am really excited as this gave me the opportunity to create larger interactive sculptural works, and really defy the boundaries of what is possible with technologies like rapid prototyping. I created artifacts that depend on audience participation to reach their full potential. Designing the interactive element was a significant challenge, taking my practice to a new level, in terms of both audience experience and technical expertise." |
With the support of Anarkik3D, she went on to create several works of interactive art for the Jerwood Makers Open, exhibited at The Jerwood Space in London and Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh. Farah is currently based in New Zealand and you can keep up with her current work on her website.
The two pieces below are Farah's earliest objects, designed on Cloud9 when as an MA student at Edinburgh College of Art she did a placement with Anarkik3D.
